What does an Acro class at KDF look like?

Acro classes build coordination, spatial awareness, and strength through a series of flexibility drills and conditioning. Dancers learn a variety of tumbling and gymnastics skills in a safe, structured environment. Every skill is taught with proper form and technique, building confidence as your dancer progresses.

What ages is Acro for, and which days do classes meet?

Acro is offered for ages 4-18: Mini and Petite (ages 4-9) on Tuesday, Junior and Teen/Senior (ages 9-18) on Wednesday, and Jazz/Acro for ages 7-11 on Thursday. Acro/Tumbling for ages 5-8 also meets on Saturday. See the class schedule PDF for specific class times.

Who teaches Acro at KDF?

Kaylee Addis teaches Acro for all age levels and leads Jazz/Acro. A competitive dancer trained at Alternative Dance Centre in Central Florida, Kaylee brings skill and passion to teaching acrobatic technique. Kimmie Louwsma Gehr teaches Acro/Tumbling for ages 5-8 on Saturday.

What should my dancer wear to Acro?

Wear shorts and an athletic top or a leotard, dance barefoot, and keep hair neatly secured away from the face. Acro requires freedom of movement and careful foot placement, so bare feet let your dancer feel the floor. See the full dress code for details.

What is the difference between Acro and gymnastics?

Acro at KDF combines dance with tumbling and flexibility skills. Classes include strength and flexibility drills so skills are performed safely and correctly. The focus is on building a dancer's overall technique and artistry through acrobatic movement, not just the gymnastics skills alone.

Is Acro safe for young kids?

Strength and flexibility drills come first so every skill is done safely and correctly. Dancers are placed by age group, and teachers may recommend moving up or down based on experience. For the youngest dancers, Tiny Tumbling for ages 2-4 introduces rolls, balance, bridges and simple tumbling skills on mats, taught through games.
